The Volusia County Farm Bureau holds many events for members throughout the year. These events are just a fun way to get together and make new friends with other Farm Bureau member families.
For Farm Bureau members who are women, reserve a seat at the upcoming Women’s Breakfast. This fun morning of food, games and door prizes will be Saturday, March 8 at the Grant Bly House, 842 E New York Ave, DeLand. Breakfast is served bright and early at 9 a.m. Call Judy Eyler at 386-734-1612 to reserve your place at the table.
The Annual Dinner is held at the Volusia County Fairgrounds typically in October. The dinner is only for Farm Bureau members and their family members who reside in their home. It’s a delicious, free banquet with entertainment and door prizes.
The Volusia County Farm Bureau Youth Speech Contest gives money to teens ages 14 to 18 just for speaking up for five minutes. This year’s speech theme is “Over the past 500 years, how has technology influenced Florida agriculture?”. Top three winners receive cash prizes of $200, $150 and $75, respectively. Winners at the county level will move into the district competition and be eligible to win more cash prizes. District winners then move on to the state competition in October. State competition grand prize is $500. The 2014 topic will be announced by Florida Farm Bureau.
Food Check-Out week is in February, 2014. To celebrate, the Volusia County Farm Bureau is giving a special “How to cook kale” class with specialists from the IFAS Extension Services office. The class is free! Attend at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 20 at the Wednesday Farmers Market, located at the Volusia County Fairgrounds in DeLand.
Volusia County Farm Tour – A self-guided tour of selected farms happens each year around Thanksgiving week. The tour dates and locations are announced by Volusia County Farm Bureau’s partners at the UF/IFAS Extension office. The tour is free and open to the public.
